The Formation, Structure and Properties of Crystals

By Sheri Pink www.lifechangingrelaxation.com

Crystals form deep within the earth’s crust. Super heated gases and mineral rich solutions at enormously high temperatures find their way along cracks and fissures and make their way to the surface. As they cool the constituent atoms begin to arrange themselves into more stable relationships with their neighbours. The effect builds up regular three dimensional repeating patterns of atoms known as Crystal Lattices. Every atom has found the most stable and balanced arrangement possible.

Crystals continue to grow until all the free atoms are arranged or until conditions change. As the solutions cool further, the pressure drops and different elements join in combination, which causes other sorts of crystals to appear. Usually harder minerals such as Diamond, Emerald and Quartz form at a high temperature and pressure. Softer minerals like Calcite, Turquoise and Selenite crystallize at much lower temperatures.

A crystal may have remained the same for thousands or millions of years, or it may have gone through several transformations of shape and form, dissolving and re-crystallizing through being subjected to new mineral solutions or new external conditions that have altered it in some way. The mineral Rhodocrosite can metamorphose from Calcite which looks completely different.

All the properties of crystals derive from their unique stages and stability of their atomic structure. They are subjected to heat, pressure, electricity or light and can make minute adjustments that quickly restore their internal stability. This is the quality that makes crystals so important in many different areas of technology. We find crystals in watches and lasers, as switching and regulating devices, and in engines powering everything from cars to space shuttles.

Crystals and gemstones help the healing processes of the body because their very nature spontaneously increases the levels of harmony in their immediate environment. By placing crystals close to an energy in-balance – whether it be physical, emotional or mental illness – encourages our own healing processes to become more effective. When our own energy systems begin to break down under stress, the simple but powerful resonance of a crystal helps us to clarify and re-instate our own harmonious patterns of health.

The energy and nature of a crystal or gemstone is universal energy – a block in the foundation of life.
