About Kathy

Kathy English Holt (aka Tender Luv) is the inspiration behind Tender Luving Services.  Kathy’s experience as a health practitioner has taught her that the giving and receiving of love is the key to all healing.

Kathy English Holt is a body and energy therapist and retreat facilitator based in Washington, DC.  Her work as a massage therapist, hypnotherapist and Reiki master has allowed her to work intimately with the body, mind and spirit of hundreds of clients over 18 years. In the Washington, DC area, Kathy was a well-known instructor of the massage class, “The Heart of Touch”, as well as, a facilitator of silent retreats and other gatherings of women.  She currently sits on the Board of Massage Therapy for the District of Columbia and teaches the Traditional Usui Reiki.

As an actor and vocalist, Kathy was widely known for her work in the children’s play on the life of Dr. Ben Carson, pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins produced by The Center For Creative Arts in Columbia, MD.  She is currently working on recreating Nannie Helen Burroughs, a well-loved educator and founder of the first black women’s boarding school.  Kathy serves as a claque member for The Woolly Mammoth Theater in Washington, DC. and  views her work in the performing arts as an extension of her work in the healing arts.

Kathy is the proud mother of two talented adult children, Corcoran Holt, a jazz musician and Kasmin Holt, a program officer for ServeDC, the District of Columbia’s organization for volunteerism.  Her life partner, Senghor Baye, is President General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association-African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) and a motivational speaker.  Kathy is an active member of Peoples Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, DC where she sings with The Voices of Peoples Gospel Choir and serves on the Diaconate Board. Her meditation practice, study of A Course in Miracles, along with her professional practice, group facilitation, and personal healing journey continue to reveal forgiveness and ultimately, acceptance of self and others as the bridge to healing and peace.

A 1981 graduate of Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, NC , she holds  a BA in Business Administration.  In 1993 she completed her massage therapy training certification at Potomac Massage Training Institute in Washington, DC where she continued to teach for many years.   In 2003 she received her certification in hypnotherapy from the Association of Research & Enlightenment (Edgar Cayce Center) in Virginia Beach, VA and in 2007 she completed her Reiki Master Level in the Usui System. Since 2002 she has been a student of A Course in Miracles, a spiritual text whose purpose is to be an agent of inner healing.
